Averages as the brand reported them. Each line is averaged over the outlets reporting that line, so the lines do not add to the totals. Rows marked * divide the printed averages by sales or by the printed territory counts.
Average gross sales were $730,493, $1,126,072 and $1,999,230 for outlets open 13 to 36 months, 37 to 60 months and more than 60 months. The FDD says the average franchise in those groups owns 1, 2 and 3 territories. Per territory, sales were $730,493, $563,036 and $666,410*.
EBITDA averaged $56,430, $106,225 and $238,178. As shares of average sales that is 7.7%, 9.4% and 11.9%*, and per territory $56,430, $53,113 and $79,393*. The FDD defines EBITDA before truck payments, owner compensation and other discretionary expenses.
Gross profit less total fixed expenses does not equal the printed EBITDA in any group. The differences are $62,970, $108,025 and $130,787*. Each line is an average over the outlets that reported it, so the lines in a column come from different sets of outlets.
Across all 144 franchised outlets, EBITDA works out at 11.1% of sales*. Averan weighted the two years-in-business groups the FDD also prints (25 outlets at 1 to 3 years and 119 at more than 3 years, averaging $196,803 of EBITDA on $1,727,744 of sales). Weighted the same way, the two groups’ sales give back the printed $1,554,610.
Truck labor was 31% of sales at 13 to 36 months and 28% in the two older groups. Weighted by outlet count, it is 28.5% across the 144*. Marketing spending was 12.6%, 13.1% and 11.5% of average sales*, above the 8% local advertising requirement in each group.
