We keep the books for growing businesses.
Averan is a bookkeeping and controller firm. We take over the books, own the monthly close, and give owners numbers they can make decisions from.
Every owner should be able to look at their own numbers and know what to do next. We keep the books that make that possible, and help you plan what comes after.
What changes for you
You decide with confidence
Hiring, pricing, a second location, an offer on the table. The question is never really about the books — it is whether you can trust what they tell you when it matters.
You stop carrying it
Someone else owns the close, the reconciliations, and the reporting. That is a weekend back, and one fewer thing that only works because you are watching it.
You keep the same team as you grow
The business gets more complex. The people do not change. What we do widens as the questions widen, so nothing has to be explained twice.
Where owners usually find us.
Averan works at every stage. A startup that needs clean books from day one, and a company complex enough to need a real monthly close, margin analysis, and someone accountable for the numbers.
Starting out
You want the books set up properly from the beginning, so nothing has to be rebuilt later.
Not ready for a full-time CFO
You need controller-level insight without a six-figure salaried hire on the payroll.
Planning your next move
Hiring, pricing, expanding, or eventually selling — and you want the numbers behind the decision.
Scott Engler, Founder
Scott is the founder of Averan and Chair of C2O, a private Vistage CEO peer advisory group for owners and chief executives. Sitting in that room every month keeps him close to the decisions, pressures, and tradeoffs owners are actually dealing with.
His career has taken him from the mechanics of finance to the boardroom. His first job was designing a four-hour close for a commodities trading firm. He later built an entire financial system for another, moved into business broadcasting, and eventually led a mid-market CFO practice serving more than 1,000 members.
Before founding Averan, Scott spent 17+ years at CEB and Gartner, leading CFO and CHRO advisory practices and working directly with more than 2,000 middle-market CFOs. He saw the same thing repeatedly: good decisions start with numbers you can trust.
His experience also includes private-equity advisory and hands-on ownership of companies he helped grow and sell. That experience shapes how Averan works: get the books right, then use the numbers to make better decisions about pricing, hiring, margins, and cash.
Scott knows what owners need from their numbers because he has spent his career on both sides of the table: advising executives and sitting alongside owners making the decisions themselves.
A team of proven bookkeepers, across the country.
