Source: Item 19, Table 2 and its notes. The share column divides each average by the $1,105,382 average revenue of the 26. Franchise fees include royalty, brand fund and national account fees. Miscellaneous covers vehicle tags and taxes, any rent and occupancy costs, vehicle storage, repairs and maintenance, utilities, water, office supplies, accounting and other professional fees, meals, licenses and bank charges. No line includes interest, debt service, taxes, depreciation or amortization.
Item 19 defines net profit as gross revenue less the six expense lines. The 26 averaged $196,024 of net profit, with a median of $118,364, and an average net profit rate of 20.28%, with a median rate of 19.26%. The lowest rate was −0.79%, a loss.
Personnel was 40.42%* of average revenue. Item 19 says this line covers wages paid to management and employees, bonuses, payroll taxes, health insurance, workers’ compensation and other benefits. Personnel was 7.87 times* the chemicals and supplies line.
The franchise fees line was 12.29%* of average revenue. The Item 6 royalty and brand fund come to 11% of gross revenue; the line also includes national account fees.
The six expense averages add to $1,105,382.84*, one cent more than the $1,105,382.83 revenue average. Revenue less those averages leaves no profit, while the table prints a $196,024 average net profit. Item 19 does not explain the difference.
Note 9 says the median net profit is the revenue median less the median of each expense line. That arithmetic gives $204,980*, or 18.61%* of the median revenue, while the table prints $118,364, which is 10.74%* of the median revenue. The printed net profit rate, 20.28% on average, is the figure Item 19 states directly as a percentage.
