What this tool does

Fifteen areas rated from books and close through unit reporting, cash forecasting, fee tracking and expansion readiness, returning a stage and the two or three gaps worth fixing first.

How to read the result

  • The assessment is about the finance function, not about the brand. A well-known brand does not close your books.
  • Most owners score well on transactions and badly on reporting. That is the normal shape and it is fixable.
  • Where you rate yourself low twice in the same area, that is the place to start.
  • Stage matters more than score. Bookkeeping, controller and CFO work solve different problems in that order.

Questions we get asked

How long does it take?

It takes a few minutes. Nothing is saved and nothing is sent unless you ask for a copy.

What do I do with the result?

Fix the two lowest-rated items that touch cash or unit reporting. Those are the ones that change decisions.

Is this the same as the franchise numbers check?

The diagnostic scores your unit economics against the brand's filing. This one scores the finance function that produces the numbers.

Planning another location? Fractional CFO covers the forecast and the cash plan behind it.

What happens next

Reading about it and having it done are different things. Here is exactly what happens if you want the second one.

  1. The call takes thirty minutesYou describe the business and where the numbers are letting you down. We give you an expert view of your situation, and what we would start with. There is no pitch deck.
  2. We look at the fileYou give us read access to the books as they are. We come back with what is wrong, what it will take to fix, and whether the answer is bookkeeping, controller work, or something else.
  3. We send a written scope and a priceIt lists what we do each month, what you get, the date it lands and the fee. We agree it before anything starts, and it does not change unless you agree.
  4. We take over the books and close the first monthWe set up access and systems and enter the opening balances. The first close lands on the date in the scope, and every one after it does too.
